Thomas Humber

I'm a problem solver with a curious mind and a pragmatic streak. I like getting to the real problem quickly, then driving it until it's done.

I've always known how to talk to people, from boxing journalism and maths tuition to construction sites full of people from every background. It's what drew me to startups; I get a lot out of working with teams.

Deal-making: Sourcing deals and managing deal flow end to end, through due diligence, terms and close.

Incubation: Curriculum, cohorts and hands-on founder support, from someone who has been a founder.

Partnerships: Programmes, partners and events that bring builders into an ecosystem and keep them shipping.

Community and go-to-market: Go-to-market, community and digital strategy, for our own products and for clients.

Events and speaking: Hosting, speaking and running events, from one stage to four cities at once.

Programme delivery: Programmes, grants, milestones and logistics, run end to end.

Investors and strategy: Investor relations from the Office of the CEO at Parity, an M&A initiative, and investor dinners.

Cost and commercial: Budgets up to £60m and contracts in construction; grants, milestones and four-city events in Web3.

Product and building: Products from the first question to launch, and full-stack builds with AI coding tools.

Teaching and writing: Eight years of tutoring, boxing journalism, and a writing award at 13.

  1. 2025–now Ran an accelerator's deal flow, from sourcing to close Midnight Foundation

Night Sky is an accelerator in the mould of Outlier Ventures. I run its deal flow end to end: sourcing, due diligence, agreeing terms and getting teams into deals, and I work with the investment side as teams move to their next round.

  2. 2025–now Built an incubation programme from scratch Midnight Foundation

I designed Build Club's eight-week curriculum, launched it and run it end to end. Two cohorts are complete and the third is running. Over 50 teams incubated this year, with me hands-on on product definition, marketing and go-to-market.

  12. 2021 Found the problem that took me out of construction Construction

Drawings passed between architects and clients all day, and nobody could prove who sent what, when. What if every hand-over carried a timestamp no one could dispute? That question took me to blockchain, to the Construction Blockchain Consortium, and out of construction.

  13. 2022–now Took a blockchain document product to market T-Block Labs

anarchy.build (formerly Archisinal) brought timestamped document hand-over to architecture and construction. Every grant milestone delivered, go-to-market and community events in 7 countries, and a partnership with the University of Buenos Aires. Moving a traditional industry needed more capital than the opportunity justified, so we sunset it and kept building.

Education

Early life

Everything up to construction.

  1. 1841–1910

    The first Thomas Humber

My great-great-great-grandfather taught himself to build a velocipede in 1868 and founded Humber in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. In 1884 he patented a diamond-framed safety bicycle that became a pattern for the bikes that followed. The Humber name later went on cars.

I was named after him, and what came down to me was his curiosity.

  2. to 2013

    School

I was the maths kid who also wrote novels. One of them won a writing award when I was 13. I left Willink School as Head Boy, with A levels in maths, further maths, physics and history.

  3. Gap year

    The factory floor

A year as a metalwork apprentice at the Atomic Weapons Establishment, learning precision engineering, measurement, and maths that had to work in the real world.

  4. 2014–2018

    A false start

I failed my first year of engineering because I couldn’t pass the coding module. I now work in tech and build software in my spare time. I switched to pure mathematics at Loughborough and graduated in 2018.

  5. From 2015

    Paying my way

To pay my way I ran a tutoring business, teaching maths and English to families from every kind of background, and wrote about boxing, interviewing fighters at shows around the UK.
